Interesting, an accurate description of our industry
RTO Online Response: Hopefully, the next round of expansion will be a little more healthy.

Just curious...who do you consider the 'top 5' RTO companies?  Rent-A-Center, RentWay, Aarons,....????  If you could please reply I would appreciate it.
RTO Online Response: Actually, we use the term "Big 5". The "Big 5" are the 5 US publicly traded Rent to Own companies. Rent a Center, Aaron Rents, Rainbow Rentals, Bestway, and Rent Way. W track all 5 company stocks HERE

Just say "NO" to summer
Summertime doesn't have to
mean the blues for RTO

I completely agree that there is no reason why sales should drop off in the summer.  I have been in the RTO business for over three years now and we have pushed store level marketing the same all year long.  So, I have never witnessed a dramatic downturn in sales throughout the summer.
    RTO Online Response:
No matter the temptations to seasonally adjust marketing levels...consistency is the key.

Great idea but most corporate leaders cover themselves by following trends they have created (the idea of the summer blues) instead of making things happen in there stores.
Great job, and I wish I had found this web site sooner. Will learn more as it is written.

    RTO Online Response:
We should all be aware of the "Pygmalion" effect. In a sentence, the Pygmalion effect is..."you get what you expect". If you expect your kids to do poorly in school, they will. If you expect your business to do poorly in summer...you will get what you expect.

Customer Complaints
Who's fault is it anyway?

  • Better than War and Peace
Very nicely written. Would love to hear and see more article's.
    RTO Online Response:
Thank you! Including the weekly newsletters, RTO Online published 21 original articles in March. We see this expanding in the months ahead.
  • Just OK
Whoever wrote this doesn't run a store every day. If you cave in on everything, they will do it over and over again. That is not the way to run a highly profitable store. Be fair and your customers will respect you and keep coming back!!!!!! swapping and loaning COST YOU MONEY!!!!
    RTO Online Response:
Thank you for your comment. Yes its true, swapping and loaning do cost money. However, nothing...repeat nothing, is more important than maintaining a good relationship with the customer and extending the agreement to a profitable conclusion.  The customers only responsibility is to pay 'for the use of' merchandise in good working condition. When a customer tells you "my washer doesn't work", you have 3 choices, all of which must be completed the same day. 1: Fix the problem in their home or 2: Bring them a loaner or swap-out or 3: Decide the complaint is unwarranted and decline any further action. The first two choices will extend the agreement, the third choice will likely end it instantly.
