LG
Electronics introduced what it claims is the world's first
washing system that incorporates steam technology at the 2006
Kitchen/Bath Industry Show, sponsored by
NKBA, in
Chicago, Illinois.
"With the addition of our SteamWasher, LG will not only improve
washing performance and save energy, but will change the way
people think about clothing care," said Soon Kwon, president of
Digital Appliances for LG Electronics USA, Inc.
As the latest addition to LG's laundry portfolio, the
ultra-large capacity unit incorporates a steam generator that
enables higher energy efficiency and water conservation when
compared to traditional machines. Steam can be incorporated into
the wash cycle in one of two ways. The first is with a 20-minute
SteamFresh Cycle, which uses steam to reduce wrinkles and
refresh clothing without the use of water or detergent. As a
second option, consumers can opt to combine steam with a hot or
warm water wash cycle.
The SteamWasher also features a 4.0 cubic feet drum and has a
menu-driven control panel with a blue LCD screen that offers a
multi-lingual option -- English, French and Spanish.
The LG SteamWasher carries a manufacturer's suggested retail
price ranging from $1,499 to $1,599 for the washer, and $1,049
to $1,199 for the dryer.
