The goal of easyhome's "Backpack Challenge" is to implement a fun, store-level charity drive to raise funds for backpacks full of school supplies and to support the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada.

easyhome raised enough to purchase 2,000 backpacks full of school supplies for children across Canada.

On Friday August 24th, David Ingram, President & CEO of easyhome, Canada's largest rent-to-own company, rode a BIG YELLOW school bus to drop off 200 backpacks to the Hamilton East Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club. The event capped off another successful Backpack Challenge for easyhome. The company's employees and vendors raised enough money to purchase 2,000 backpacks full of school supplies for needy children across Canada.

As the school bus pulled up to Hamilton East Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club, David was greeted by Program Supervisor Sam Campanella and more than 150 anxious and excited children. A Nintendo Wii gaming system was raffled off and given to a lucky club member.

"We could not have achieved our goals without the hard work and determination of all easyhome associates, vendor partners, and most importantly, our customers and community businesses," said  Ingram. "This was a team effort. Together, we will assist 2,000 children in preparation for a successful education this year."

Pauline O’Brien (Store Manager) and John Kanarens (Regional Manager), easyhome's top fundraisers for 2006, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in support of the 2007 backpack fundraiser (see story). In 2006, easyhome raised over $170,000 in total and donated 2,000 backpacks filled with school supplies. In 2005, easyhome raised over $81,603 from all their fundraising events and donated 1,500 backpacks.

The company's top two 2006 fundraisers, Store Manager Pauline O’Brien and Regional Manager John Kanarens, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in support of the backpack fundraiser (see story). In 2004, easyhome announced a national charitable partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada. The goal of this partnership is to demonstrate a commitment by investing in Canada’s most precious national resource, our children. There are approximately 102 local Boys and Girls Clubs, which serves more than 200,000 young people in 700 community-based locations in 40 different languages, across Canada. They offer a wide variety of services ranging from nutrition to after school programs.

With 200 locations, easyhome is Canada's largest rent-to-own/leasing company.
