As a former police officer, Larry Crist swore to serve and protect. Now he’s serving customers at his new ColorTyme store in Klamath Falls. Crist is no stranger to the rent-to-own (RTO) business. He’s been with ColorTyme since 1982; just three years after the company got its start in 1979.

Crist’s career path has been a real family affair. He became interested in the rental business just after he left the police force in Louisville, Ky. “It’s a funny story actually,” says Crist. “My brother Dan dragged me out of bed to be with him as he took the police exam. However, I ended up taking the exam, passing it and becoming a police officer. But I later realized something was missing with my life and that’s where by other brother Doug came in,” Crist remembers. “He encouraged me to help him open a ColorTyme store in Bakersfield, Ca. I ended up running a franchise in Anaheim, later opening my own franchise in Medford, Ore. in 1986.”

Crist’s plans on opening another ColorTyme in Grants Pass, Ore. soon and is excited about the Pay Day Loan program ColorTyme offers its franchisees. “It draws in customers to rent from us that may not have had an interest in renting before,” says Crist. “We’re able to introduce them to various renting and loan options and that separates us from our competitors. We treat them like the most important person in the world. That’s why our customers have supported us for 20 years.”
