Louisiana Democrat Mary Landrieu, original Senate sponsor of
the Consumer Rental Purchase Agreement Act (s2947), narrowly
defeated Republican challenger Suzanne Haik Terrellin 51% to 49%
in Saturdays run-off election.
Minorities make up over 63% of registered voters in some
parishes and voted 4-1 in favor of Landrieu, making the
difference in a tight race.
While there is still a slim hope that S2947 may be included
in an appropriations bill during the lame duck session, most
believe the bill is essentially dead and will have to be
re-introduced in the House next year.
