Westinghouse
Digital Electronics announced that it is lowering pricing
and offering manufacturer's rebates on select models of its LCD
TVs through March 1, 2004.
New pricing for Westinghouse LCD TVs is: 30-inch
(model #W33001) at $2,599 after $300 manufacturer's rebate;
30-inch (model #W33000) at $2,749 with no rebate required;
27-inch (model #W32701) at $2,399 after $100 rebate; and the
20-inch LCD TV (model #W32001) at $899 after $100 rebate.
"We believe our ability to supply the retail
channel with large volumes of high-quality LCD TVs at these
price points will change consumer perceptions about the
affordability of the technology and will accelerate its adoption
by mainstream buyers" said Douglas Woo, president of
Westinghouse Digital.
"Pricing is a key factor for consumers when deciding which type
of television set to purchase," said Riddhi Patel, senior
analyst for the market research firm
iSuppli/Stanford Resources,
El Segundo, Calif. "LCD TVs presently are priced between three
to five times more than comparably-sized CRT sets. Thus, pricing
for LCD TVs must decline considerably to spur mass adoption.
"LCDs in the 26- to 30-inch range are emerging
as some of the most popular sizes for TV sets," Patel said.
"Prices for such LCD TVs are expected to decline by an annual
compound rate of 37 percent between 2003 and 2007, iSuppli/Stanford
Resources predicts."
Westinghouse LCD televisions are available
through J&R, or through
Metron North America and MARTA dealers
nationwide.
