Several sources are
reporting that private investment group
Fortress Investment Group, a New York based firm, is
currently leading the bidding to buy UK Rent to Own 'Boxclever'.
The deal would presumable be handled by Fortress' "Drawbridge Special
Opportunities Team" formed in 2002. According to the companies website, this
special opportunities team specializes in "opportunistically
acquiring and originating a diversified portfolio of
undervalued, orphaned and distressed investments throughout the
United States, Western Europe and Japan."
Drawbridge is headed by Fortress principle Peter
L. Briger, Jr.. Mr. Briger has been a principal and a member of
the Management Committee of Fortress since March 2002.
Goldman Sachs was hired by current Boxclever financier
WestLB, a German bank, to manage the
sale. Prior to
joining Fortress, Mr. Briger spent 15 years at Goldman, Sachs,
where he became partner in 1996.
Other companies reportedly bidding on Boxclever
are Cerberus Capital Management LLP,
Terra Firma Capital
Partners Ltd. and television rental company
Martin Dawes.
