Today’s wheels shine with chrome, a huge trend in the forties and fifties. We’ve watched them in MTV videos and seen them on local cars and trucks. Wheels are frequently paired with the younger crowd which includes pop culture icons. Chrome wheels and rims are a necessity for anyone looking to alter his/her ride.

As much as TV and the media hype the relationship of young people with chrome rims, there’s another age bracket that is as important to the chrome wheel industry as anyone - men in their forties.

This area of enthusiasts enjoys their automobiles and will often times spend whatever is necessary to customize a vehicle to fit their taste. A large and shiny chrome wheel is a necessity that is key to the vehicle’s overall appearance.

The chrome wheel business is a healthy one. Chrome wheels are available in numerous sizes, styles and prices. The latest trend is bigger - much bigger.

10 years ago, 17-inch wheels were considered huge. “Bigger is better right now,” said CheriLyn Korth, Vice President of Sales for Premier Rimz, describing the recent wheel trend. "In fact in 2006, a 30-inch rim was introduced for the first time at Las Vegas’ SEMA show."

A store renting Premier Rimz in Lawrence, Kansas reports that men over forty make up the majority of their customers buying chrome wheels. They say that the older guys either come in after seeing their friend’s cars with wheels or after having just watched a show like MTV’s “Pimp My Ride”.
