Police
followed the suspects to a local rent to own store and witnessed
the burglary.
Tucson police have arrested two men
in connection with a series smash and grab burglaries at Rent to
own stores around the city.
In October of 2006, Tucson Police Department burglary detectives
began an investigation into the burglaries, all of which they
believed had a common thread. Some of the similarities included
time of occurrence, method of entry and type of items taken. By
January of 2007, detectives were investigating over 30
burglaries with these similarities. In mid-January detectives
were able to develop some significant leads and focused on two
suspects.
On February 6th, during the continuing investigation,
investigators noticed a suspicious white car near one of the
previously burglarized businesses. They followed that car to
another rent-to-own business that had also been previously
victimized. Finally, the two occupants of the car drove to a
third business where police witnessed them breaking in. Officers
arrested both subjects as they attempted to leave the business
with stolen electronics.
Arrested were Raymond Acevedo, 35 and Sergio Felix, 30, both of
Tucson. They have both been charged with one count each of
felony burglary, theft and Criminal Damage. Acevedo was also
charged with one count of resisting arrest.
Police say more than $100,000 of merchandise was stolen in the
string of robberies.
