For years, consumer lawn care equipment remained firmly entrenched as a retail-only category. Sure, you could rent some equipment from the local rental yard, but never from the same store where you'd go to rent a sofa.

However, for those rental dealers willing to experiment with Poulan lawn care products, this new category has helped them… ahem…mow down the competition.

"There is a huge opportunity for rental dealers in the Outdoor Power arena. With over 50% of the households in America owning some type of mower, the customer base is enormous. The rent to own customer is looking for this type of product. In many cases they are turned away or have no other option to obtain it from the box type stores. Having the ability to purchase it from a rent to own location is a win-win opportunity for everyone," said Corley Heiserman, Sales Director for Poulan Outdoor.

Poulan merchandise represents more than a 50% market share of the outdoor power equipment industry. Every item that is available to retail stores is available to rental dealers, as well. That includes riding mowers, walk-behind mowers and hand-held items like chain saws, trimmers, blowers and more. Poulan manufactures under three brand names – Poulan, Poulan Pro and Weed Eater. That makes the company the largest producer of outdoor power equipment in the world.

"Being involved in the RentDirect show gives us a chance to show off our class leading tractor features. We now offer a foot pedal hydrostatic transmission so that using one of our lawn tractors is more like driving a car. Both our 42" and 46" Poulan Pro tractors are considered'Best in Class' because they offer the most features of any tractor at their respective price points – and our new 46" decks earned the coveted Consumer Reports'Best Buys' status."

Poulan sell-through data proves that rental stores that merchandise lawn care equipment year-round achieve a consistently higher number of agreements on rent than those who treat the products as a seasonal category. For decades, Poulan products have made work easier for millions of satisfied customers. Now they say they're also ready to make higher profit margins easy work for rental dealers.

"I encourage all the rental dealers to look outside the box, or box stores for that matter. Industry sales data show outdoor products to be a growth category. Our products represent a huge opportunity that can be very profitable with little effort".
