There was legal opposition in the Justice Department to the merger. How was the opposition resulved to allow the transaction to take place. I essentially agree with this article. Nevertheless, labor must take some responsibiltiy for facilitating our economy's change from a manufacturing based system to one that is driven by technology and services. I do not believe, however, we can afford to lose our manufacturing base and must determine a way to keep it in our country on our own soil for out own survival. I am not convinced that creating mega corporations and allowing mergers such as this is the route to take. There is too much loss in competativeness and thereby the loss in quality and creativity. not to mention the loss in jobs. This recent merger has the feel of a manipulated and "set-up" job, not withstanding the porblems Maytag has experienced during the last several years. I have noted in my reading that there are at lest two security fraud cases outstanding against the recent Maytag CEO and the vice president and including the Maytag Corporation as defendents in the suits. How have these been disposed? Was the stock in any way namipulated to facilite a merger decision??
