On Monday,
CertificateSwap.com's 17-Year-Old-President, Nat Turner,
received the TCU Texas Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
The event was hosted by
Texas Christian University's
Neely
School of Business and was sponsored by KPMG. The TCU Texas
Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Awards Program recognizes
young high school entrepreneurs for their success in
business. To be eligible, entrants must currently be
enrolled in high school.
The Ryffel Center for Entrepreneurial Studies in
the Neely
School of Business at TCU awarded Turner with a $5,000
college scholarship. Turner has already committed to the
University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business
beginning next fall however in addition to Turner's
outstanding academic accomplishments, he is also the
President of CertificateSwap.com - a startup internet
company allowing consumers to sell unwanted gift
certificates at a discount.
CertificateSwap.com was launched in December by
19-year-old
college freshman, Cameron Johnson from Roanoke, Virginia.
Since the company's launch, just over six weeks ago, the
company has been featured in over one-hundred media outlets
nationwide including USA Today, Time Magazine, The NY Post,
MSNBC, The Chicago Tribune, and dozens of others. Johnson,
the company's Founder and CEO, started his first business at
the age of 9 and in 2002 was the Keynote Speaker with
Michael Dell at the Youth International Technology Summit in
Austin, Texas. Nat Turner was asked to be a speaker at the
same event in 2003 and this is when he was first introduced
to Johnson. While the CertificateSwap.com concept has received
nationwide attention, it is currently in the process of raising
additional capital from angel investors and venture capitalists.
