In a perfect world, notebooks are used in dry, computer-friendly environments. Users protect their mobile PCs from spills and drops. But in the real world populated by on-the-go travelers, hyperactive kids, busy waiters, airport security screeners and careless baggage handlers, users don’t always have the final say. While it’s fine to say that notebooks must operate under clean, dry, hazard-free conditions, they need to be rugged enough to get the job done at rough-and-tumble job sites, on active factory floors and in less-then-safe laboratories as well as in airport lounges, restaurants, classrooms and even on beaches.

Such is the case for Anthony Ryan. Ryan, a student at the University of Denver Law School, depends on his laptop to take online courses, chat with professors and other students and do homework, all the while withstanding the busy schedule and lifestyle of a working college student. “I go to class in the morning and then on to work in the afternoon,” said Ryan. “It’s essential for me to be able to take my work and school projects with me wherever I go.”

Tough Enough
Ryan purchased his Twinhead Durabook notebook in January 2005 to help him through the tough, final semester of law school and to prepare for the upcoming Colorado Bar Examination, which he will take the last week of July 2005. Not knowing where to start his notebook search, Ryan sought the help of an IT solution provider in his hometown of St. Louis.

This was a major concern because I plan to take the Colorado Bar Examination through my notebook. If my computer shuts down or locks up, that’s it. I’m done. They don’t let you go back and restart your computer and give you more time.” In addition, Ryan wanted a notebook that would last. He was concerned about having to purchase a new laptop within a year’s time to stay abreast of the latest technology.
