Lots of companies are diving into the brave new world of digital television sets. But there is at least one group that has been manufacturing LCD televisions since LCD was just some term thrown around by math teachers (ahem – ‘Lowest Common Denominator’?)
That company is Mitsubishi. Despite its Japanese name and heritage, Mitsubishi is primarily an American company with more than 99 percent of employees based in North America. Their line of projection television sets is produced at the company’s headquarters in Irvine, California and Mitsubishi’s research and development team continues to set the tone for innovation within the industry.
Using the very latest in manufacturing science and technology, Mitsubishi’s four-hundred thousand-square-foot facility is capable of producing more than 1,000 projection televisions in a single day. But according to Vik Murty, Senior Manager of Product Marketing, it’s not just a capacity for volume that makes Mitsubishi a great partner for the rental industry.
“Mitsubishi has a long and proud heritage in the big screen TV business. We actually created certain markets in the big screen space. Mitsubishi is all about providing premium quality televisions for a minimal cost. For example, our LCD rear-projection TV’s that have done so well in the rental market give customers 50% more picture for the same price as comparable plasma sets. Mitsubishi televisions offer a better picture and better performance to maximize the viewing experience.”
The two most popular models Mitsubishi sells to rental stores are a 52” and a 62” set. As customers continue to clamor for bigger and better televisions, Mitsubishi has seen sales of the 62” rise to meet those of the 52”.
“Rental has been more of a seasonal business for us, with the bulk of our product shipping for February, March and April. We have worked with some major rental companies in the past and we always gave them the right product so they could offer a compelling rental rate to their customers. What’s surprising is that the rental business has just exploded, and I think RentDirect deserves some credit for that. It used to be this quiet industry and now everyone wants to get in the picture.”
And we’ll just assume that picture is on a Mitsubishi TV.
