Lots of folks in the rental industry tell stories about Ernie Talley. But you know you’re with a real veteran when that story involves the day when Ernie Talley owned a six-store chain. “I guess you can say I’ve been around the RTO business awhile, since Ernie was one of my first customers,” said Tammy Williams, Vice President of Sales for United Distributors.

United Distributors is 20 years strong and has been the rental industry’s go-to company for items like furniture pads or a spring-loaded door jam protector to custom items like a form-fitted HDTV cover developed with the input of a major RTO corporation.

“It’s not unusual for a company to come to United with a delivery problem they need solved. We thrive on innovation and we constantly look for new ways to create products to help our customers protect their products and employees. If your store has a dock, if your store has a delivery truck, then you need what we have.”

One item United recently developed is a canvas mattress carrier that provides delivery techs with an inexpensive way to protect the bottom of a mattress while still providing leverage to carry the item via built-in handles.

About five years ago, United began manufacturing its own line of delivery aids, in addition to what it sources from outside vendors. United’s “ProSeries®” line of merchandise is marketed to commercial moving, delivery, and warehouse equipment supply companies.

“We like to call our products the ‘cheapest insurance you’ll ever purchase’. One of the most expensive items to hit a company’s bottom line is damaged merchandise and 99% of that is employee-caused. We recognize the challenge inherent in this industry is getting employees to use the products and that is why we have gone so far as to provide training DVD’s for our clients.”

One of the newest items United is developing is a foam-inserted box that will be optionally-mounted to fit in a delivery truck to protect the next generation of LCD and plasma television sets.

“We’ve been soliciting rental dealers’ input on this item and we’ll have a prototype ready to display at the RentDirect show. It’ll be very, very good for RTO dealers to have the buying power and programs RentDirect can offer them.”
