CBK  Director of Strategic Sales Initiatives Kimberly Watts' first exposure to the rental industry was during February's Nationwide RentDirect buying show in Orlando.

"We just joined the group in January and we went to the February show expecting nothing. But we were extremely pleased both with the response from the dealers and also from the orders we received. CBK has been in business nearly 30 years, and we moved more into retail home decor about 10 years ago. But this is our first major push into the rental industry and we've been very well-received so far."

That enthusiastic response from rental dealers was likely due to the quality and variety of CBK's line of home accessories, 70% of which are unique to the company.

"We follow trends in fashion, furniture, carpeting and even paint colors. We are always looking to get ahead of what's 'hot' during a particular season and then working it into our full range of home décor merchandise."

CBK offers more than 5,000 items to choose from, with a wholesale price range from $10 up to $400.

"We are known for the value of our products. CBK merchandise has a high intrinsic value for the customer because of the quality and style of our items."

Watts says some dealers initially commented that they don't rent 'pretty stuff' they just rent televisions. But she says those dealers were quickly won over by the support the CBK sales team provides and by the opportunity to rent unique add-on items.

"It is unusual in this industry, but CBK has an entire company-employed sales force who are highly qualified to work with our customers. Many are interior designers or experts in merchandising who will help display the merchandise when it arrives. They are also great at providing purchasing input as they know what is popular geographically. Something that moves in Florida may not rent in Iowa. CBK is very tuned into what the customer will like for their home."

Watts says ordering from CBK is a simple process. The company offers a low $300 minimum order for a new customer and a $100 minimum reorder. Which means you can help your customers create high style at home for a low investment.
