The Wisconsin
Rental Purchase Agreements Act is one step closer to becoming
law. By unanimous consent, the Wisconsin Senate today
sent the Act to the Joint
Committee on Finance.
The Joint Committee's primary responsibility is
to consider the fiscal impact of proposed legislation. Wisconsin
law requires Finance Committee review of any bill that requires
a Fiscal Estimate (FE).
During executive session earlier this week, the Co-chairs of
the committee,
Senator Alberta Darling, Senate Chair (R), and
Representative Dean Kaufert, Assembly Chair (R), indicated
that the committee would meet Monday, March 8th to consider the
Act.
The Finance Committee has several options;
Recommend passage 'As-is', amend the Act to reconcile both House
and Assembly versions, or recommend non-passage. Assuming the
Joint Committee recommends passage, a vote must be held in both
houses and the Act must be signed by Governor Jim Doyle by Thursday,
March 11th when the current session ends.
