Derrick Peterson, Service
Manager at RentWay's (RWY) Service Center in Ashland, VA, was awarded
the 2004 Bill
Morgenstern Spirit Award honoring the top two associates whose
exceptional
character and performance have made a positive, lasting
difference at work and
in the community.Peterson and Melani Scott from Erie, PA were
selected from an organization
of over 4,200 employees as recipients of this prestigious award.
The award is
named after the company's founder and current Chairman and CEO
Bill
Morgenstern. The awards were presented at Caesar's Palace in Las
Vegas on
February 13, during RentWay's annual Store Manager's conference.
Those who nominated Peterson for the Spirit Award noted his
"commitment to
improving the lives of people in his community by undertaking a
number of
service projects such as coaching youth football, tutoring
elementary and
secondary school students and mentoring at-risk youth." He also
serves as a
voter registration coordinator, and is campaigning to restore
voting rights
for former felons. As part of the "My Buddy" program, Peterson
helps
individuals in adult-assisted homes by transporting them to
church every
Sunday.
