The majority of workers (59
percent)
think women are treated differently than men in the workplace,
with 42
percent claiming that women are treated worse, and 17 percent
reporting
better treatment towards females.
A recent Harris poll of 2,500 adults,
conducted on behalf of Addeco, reveals that an
overwhelming percentage of American workers, 95 percent, believe
women have made important advancements in the workplace over the
past ten years; however, the majority, 86 percent, also believe
that the glass ceiling is very much alive in some shape or form.
According to 51 percent of
workers, taking on leadership roles that were previously held by
men is
where women have made the most important advancement, compared
to only
1 in 10 (11 percent) who feel the most important achievement has
been
closing the pay gap with men.
The majority of workers (59
percent)
think women are treated differently than men in the workplace,
with 42
percent claiming that women are treated worse, and 17 percent
reporting
better treatment towards females.
Interestingly, there is notable disconnect
between
how men and women view gender equality at the workplace. While
only 6
percent of working women think the glass ceiling is
non-existent,
almost four times as many working men (22 percent) feel the
same.
Further, the majority of women workers (61 percent) think
they're
treated "worse than men", with only 24 percent of men agreeing
with
this statement.
The younger the worker, the less
likely he
or she is to observe gender inequality in the workplace. While
only 3
out of 10 (30 percent) Gen Y workers think women are treated
worse than
men, nearly half of Baby Boomers (45 percent) feel the same way.
