Factoids

A customer makes up his or her mind about doing business with you within minutes of entering your store
The law requires a signature, but you should seal all deals with a handshake

The old joke goes like this,

"How can you tell if a salesman is lying...His lips are moving"

Customers are cynical, as they should be. Luckily, there are many things you can tell your customer about your business without saying a word.

"The odds are good that a customer has made up his or her mind about doing business with you within minutes of entering your store...any conversation they may have is just being polite"

10 Things You Say to your customers without moving your lips

  1. I respect you
I respect you enough to dress appropriately for the workplace, and to have clean floors and windows.

  2. I care about your home
I care enough to stock merchandise that I would be proud to have in my own home.

  3. I trust you
I trust your judgment enough to have plainly visible and easy to understand price tags on all rental items disclosing all information including... number of rental payments, fees, taxes, total cost to acquire ownership and whether the merchandise is new or used.

  4. I need you, more than you need me
I carry a wide selection to meet all your needs because I know you can go around the corner and rent from someone else in minutes.

  5. I care about your safety
I care enough to maintain a well lit and easily accessible store front.

  6. I respect your time
I respect your time enough to not use gimmicks to lure you into the store like...advertising a 32" TV for $5 a week when I only have one available at that rate, and it's 50 miles away at another store.

  7. I respect your intelligence
I respect your intelligence enough to not advertise items that I do not have in stock.

  8. I care about your shopping experience
I care enough to have music playing in the background...to greet you immediately with a smile...to have all previously rented furniture professionally cleaned...to display all furniture in a room setting...to have all televisions in one place, turned on, and set to the same channel so you can compare at a glance.

9 and 10 (This one counts for two)
The law requires a signature, but I seal all deals with a handshake because the rental payment you just made puts groceries on my children's table.
