I have recently opened a Rent to own department (computers, TVs & appliances) within my Radio Shack dealer store.

We just encountered our first real problem customer. She thinks she knows RTO/collection rules/laws and just refuses to give our computer back to us. She claims attempting to repossess on Sunday is illegal. I don't believe it, but I need to know for sure. The average lawyer doesn't know this stuff.

I need some definitive collection rules (more accurately repossession). I read the "Fair Debt Collection Act" and that entire act doesn't apply to us. We aren't "third party" collectors and we are really are not collecting a "debt".

Are there any rules/laws that actually apply to me trying to recover my property other than "keeping the peace"? Oklahoma's RTO laws don't speak to this issue.
