Legislative Update
The Consumer Rental Purchase Agreement Act

Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) Staff  is the latest co-sponsor of S884; Senate version of The Consumer Rental Purchase Agreement Act. (see complete list of cosponsors below)

The addition of Baucus brings the Senate cosponsor count to 27; 14 Democrat and 13 Republican. The senior Senator is the only Montana legislator to support the bill. (click herefor list)

The Senate Banking Committee heard testimony on the Rental Purchase Agreement Act in open session in June. Sen Mary Landrieu (D-LA) urged the committee to attach (include the language of) the Act in the Regulatory Relief bill recently passed in the House and pending in the Senate. Senator Baucus is in his fifth term and is the Ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee. He also serves on the Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, Environment and Public Works, and the Joint Committee on Taxation.

Prior to his election to the Senate in 1978, Baucus served in the Montana House of Representatives from 1973- 1974 and the US House from 1975-1978.
