The world took another 'paper-less' step last week when
Orion Systems,
Inc announced that Hertz rent-a-car will use it's
'OnlineContracts' electronic signature capture software on all
rental agreements. While Hertz doesn't 'rent to own', the
implications for such a system in our industry is interesting.
While customers still receive a signed, paper rental
agreement, Hertz is the first car rental company to adopt
electronic signature capture and eliminate its own paper rental
agreements to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
By maintaining rental contracts electronically in a forge
resistant,
tamperproof format, Hertz eliminates the costs associated with
paper.
According to Michael Movalli, CEO of Orion, OnlineContracts
is a software-based solution that allows companies to
electronically capture legally binding contracts and customer's
signatures in a secure process, resulting in an exact electronic
version of the contract, including all rental information, time
stamp, initials and signatures, and look and feel. The software
allows clients to provide a paper version of the transaction to
the customer, as legally required in most binding contracts,
without the need to maintain a physical paper copy themselves.
Michael Movalli
CEO of Orion
"Hertz was interested in reducing the amount of paper it
generates at the transaction point. With our software, Hertz has
dramatically reduced the paper handling processes associated
with rental agreements, and moved to an automated electronic
process.
