Empresarios, dueños de negocios,
organizaciones sin fines de lucro y religiosas de origen afro-americano,
hispano y asiático-americanos se reunieron hoy en Filadelfia
para la cuarta edición anual de la
Conferencia de Oportunidades del Departamento del Trabajo de
los Estados Unidos. La conferencia inició en el 2003 y está
patrocinada por una amplia gama de grupos incluyendo a la
Liga de
Ciudadanos Latinos Unidos (LULAC), la
Urban League y
el Caucus de Liderazgo Pan Asian American.
"La Conferencia de Oportunidades ofrece a comunidades
tradicionalmente marginadas redes de comunicación y
oportunidades de capacitación y entrenamiento para ayudarles a
acceder a otras oportunidades en los Estados Unidos, incluyendo
oportunidades de contrataciones del gobierno federal", declaró
la Secretaria del Trabajo Elaine L. Chao. "Los dueños de
pequeños negocios, veteranos que son dueños de sus propias
empresas y los líderes de organizaciones comunitarias y
religiosas encontrarán a la Conferencia de Oportunidades de
especial valor.
Los asistentes aprendieron sobre varios temas incluyendo:
-Cómo acceder a capital para empezar un negocio
-Oportunidades de asociación para organizaciones comunitarias y
religiosas
-Cómo ser elegible para la lista de contratistas aprobados del
General Services Administration
-Cómo un negocio puede certificarse como una pequeña empresa de
minorías 8A
-Cómo ser dueño de su propia casa
El Departamento del Trabajo de los Estados Unidos cuenta con
varias iniciativas para ayudar a comunidades en crecimiento.
Entre ellas están el incrementar las oportunidades para que las
pequeñas empresas y aquellas pertenecientes a minorías puedan
convertirse en contratistas del departamento y dotar a las
comunidades de inmigrantes acceso a los materiales del
Departamento del Trabajo sobre protección de los trabajadores al
publicarlos en varios idiomas incluyendo español, chino,
vietnamita y coreano. El departamento también ha colaborado con
Universidades y Colegios Históricamente Negros para informar a
la comunidad afro-americana acerca de oportunidades en sectores
de alto crecimiento.
El evento también recibió el patrocinio de Zeta Phi Beta
Sorority Inc., Top Ladies of Distinction Inc., Alpha Phi Alpha
Fraternity Inc., y la Asociación Nacional de Black Accountants
Inc.
