Joe Welnack, owner of Cashway Furniture & Appliance (map) spoke today to RTO Online and announced that his Cashway Furniture & Appliance location is now available for lease - after 23 years the last independently owned credit-oriented furniture retailer in Brevard County is to close. "For me this is an end of an era," Welnack said. "My family started this business in 1922." Mr. Welnack indicated that illness was forcing this move. "There is nobody in my family to take over, and if I can't keep it in my family I want to close it."

Welnack is looking to lease the building to another credit-oriented furniture store or preferably, in today’s economy, an RTO operation. "I’m looking for a well-established tenant that can take advantage of this high-traffic location, RTO just has so many advantages today, successful rental purchase folks are replacing us old ‘borax operators’; I guess we are a dying breed," said Welnack.

The 14,000 sq.ft. building has 10,000 sq.ft. of showroom space on the ground floor and 4000 sq.ft. additional space on the 2nd floor which has been used as both showroom and office space. The building is zoned for a furniture store, a Pawn shop or motorcycle dealership. The parking lot accommodates 15 vehicles.

Describing the building, Welnack said, "This 14,000 sq. ft. store is just perfect for rental purchase. The location on the main thoroughfare to Cocoa Beach has always been good and the traffic count on S.R. 520 is the second highest in Brevard County, Florida. I have observed that many rent to own stores simply do not have enough affordable square footage to warehouse, refurbish and truly service a growing customer-base. This store’s large showroom solves that problem, and in addition, the building’s second floor is perfect for administrative offices or storage. If I wasn’t sick and was blessed with another ten years, I would convert Cashway into a mega rental purchase store. We see good demographics here and the growing Hispanic population has been a real bonus at this location."

When asked about future plans Welnack replied, "My first priority is to find a good tenant to continue present use. This has been a credit store that has served three generations, so I think a rental operator would quickly build a healthy BOR as evidenced by successful Aarons and Home Now locations nearby. Once we find the right operator, Cashway will discontinue operations in an orderly manner. My doctor tells me I have to reduce stress - I’m thinking of becoming a lion tamer."
