Akin has never cosponsored Rent to Own legislation in the past, but voted in favor of HR1701, the 107th Congress' version of the Act, which passed the House in 2002 and later failed in the Senate. In 2002, HR1701 came to a vote shortly after reaching 83 co-sponsors. There have been 7 attempts at passage in the house since 1985.
