Long time Nebraska representative and two-time cosponsor of The Consumer Rental Purchase Agreement Act Doug Bereuter (R-NE) will resign his seat September 1st to take over as president of The Asia Foundation. The Asia Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to "the development of a peaceful, prosperous, and open Asia-Pacific region."

Bereuter had earlier announced he would not seek reelection when his 13th term ended in November but decided to leave early when the Asia Foundation post came open. Who or how Nebraska will fill the congressman's shoes until the November election is unclear.

How this affects The Consumer Rental Purchase Agreement Act (HR996) is also unclear.
