More than 30 senior Women Corporate Executives
share their perspectives, insights, ideas, and advice on
work/life balance in a new book entitled "Seeking Joy: The Real
Truth About Work/Life Balance - Women Corporate Executives Speak
Out."
"Conceived, written and published in eight days,
'Seeking Joy' is a tribute to the passion that women have for
empowering other women in their pursuit of joy and balance,"
says Rhonda Harper, Founder & CEO of
RTM&J and author of the new
book. While preparing for a speaking engagement, Harper called
women executives for input when it became obvious that their
stories needed to be shared with as many women as possible.
More than 30 senior executives from
Bloomingdale's, BP, Campbell Soup, Cerner, CBS, Clairol,
Coca-Cola, Conagra, Corporate Executive Board, Disney, Dupont,
Frito-Lay, GSD&M, Kmart, Nestle Purina, Procter & Gamble,
Rhodes, Russell, SC Johnson, Southwest Airlines, The Home Depot,
Nature Conservancy, Unilever, Universal, Viacom, and Visa were
interviewed for the book.
"Seeking Joy" empowers women in four simple
steps: (1) Get to What's Real - facts, trends and insights as to
why balance is an issue; (2) Figure Out the Truth - 31 personal
stories from Women Executives; (3) Plan for Joy - a workbook
prepared by an executive coach; and (4) Experience Joy - a
journal that tracks the readers progress.
While much has been written lately about the
"opt-out" strategy of women executives, these women have chosen
to "opt-in" and manage work / life balance. Women executives
interviewed said they: (1) struggled with work/life balance
issues and felt that other women handled it better than
themselves; (2) reinforced their commitment to helping
colleagues work through balance issues, although they felt as
though they dealt with it alone; and (3) said balance is a
personal issue where there is no "one size fits all" solution.
