Senators Pat Roberts (R-KS) and Larry Craig (R-ID) are the latest co-sponsors to S884; Senate version of The Consumer Rental Purchase Agreement Act.

The addition of Roberts and Craig brings the Senate cosponsor count to 20; 10 Democrat and 10 Republican. 20 co-sponsors by mid September was the stated goal of industry lobbyist John Raffaelli, founder and chairman of "The Washington Group", a lobbying firm retained by APRO. Previous versions of the bill had as few as 8 co-sponsors. Wide support in both the House and Senate lead insiders to believe that a successful conclusion to the 20 year battle for overriding federal legislation may be in sight. 

Senator Roberts is in his second term and Chairs the Select Committee on Intelligence. He also serves on the Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, Armed Services, Select Committee on Ethics, Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions committees. Prior to his election to the Senate in 1996, Mr. Roberts served in the US House of Representatives from 1981 to 1996.

Larry Craig

Senator Craig is in his third term and Chairs the Special Committee on Aging. He also serves on the Appropriations, Energy and Natural Resources, Judiciary, and Veterans Affairs committees. Prior to his election to the Senate in 1990, Mr. Craig served in the Idaho Senate from 1974-81, and the US House of Representatives from 1981-91.
