Congressman Duncan is the third  Tennessee Representative to cosponsor Consumer Rental Purchase Agreement Act of 2007 (H.R. 1767).

Eleven term Tennessee Republican Representative John Duncan (R-TN-2nd) is the 68th member of Congress to announced support of the Consumer Rental Purchase Agreement Act of 2007 (H.R. 1767).

Congressman Duncan is the third Tennessee Representative to cosponsor H.R.1767.

The popular Duncan was first elected in 1988 and garnered 78% of the vote in his last election. He currently serves as Ranking Member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure's Highways and Transit Subcommittee. He also holds seats on the House Committee on Natural Resources, which retains jurisdiction over national parks and natural resources, and the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

The addition of Duncan brings the total number of US Representatives in the 110th Congress supporting federal legislation regulating the rent to own industry to 68.

The Senate version of Consumer Rental-Purchase Agreement Act of 2007 has 21 cosponsors, the latest being Nebraska Republican Chuck Hagel (see story). Senator Chuck Schumer's anti-rent-to-own-industry bill introduced in May, the Rent-To-Own Reform Act of 2007, has no cosponsors.

There have been 19 bills introduced since 1993 that would regulate the rent to own industry at the federal level. None have passed both houses of Congress (See Rent to Own Legislation 1993 to present).
