Etheridge, a six term Representative from North Carolina's 2nd
district, serves on the House Agriculture, Budget and Homeland
Security committees.
The NDC was founded in 1997 by Representatives Cal Dooley
(California), Jim Moran (Virginia) and Tim Roemer (Indiana). The
New Democrat Coalition (NDC) provides moderate, pro-growth
Members of Congress with the opportunity to advance what the
group says is "a common sense policy agenda."
"New Democrats" say they are intent on modernizing both the
Democratic Party and the country and "support policies to expand
economic growth and a fiscally responsible and efficient
government."
The NDC was reorganized under new leadership at the beginning
of the 109th Congress. See full membership list at left.
There have been 19 bills introduced since 1993 that would
regulate the rent to own industry at the federal level. None
have passed both houses of Congress (See
Rent to
Own Legislation 1993 to present).
