US
furniture manufacturers aren't the only ones losing capacity to
China's cheap labor. In a move designed to strengthen shrinking
furniture exports, Filipino furniture manufacturers plan to work
together to create a "Philippine brand".
Cebu
Furniture Industries Foundation is a non-profit organization
comprised of 163 of the largest furniture manufacturing and
exporting firms in Cebu Province, Philippines. The foundation's
president Jay Yuvallos
said
marketing Philippine-made furniture under the "Philipine brand"
could be an edge in the global furniture market. He had earlier
called for action by the country's furniture industry, as it was
lagging behind other competitors in Asia, including China and
Vietnam, in terms of price.
CFIF hosts the
Cebu
International Furniture & Furnishings Exhibition or the Cebu
X, which is lauded as Asia's premiere stop in the Asian chain of
furniture fairs. This years show runs from February 26th to
29th. (See
