Most companies wouldn’t consider an abnormally high volume of service calls to be a good thing. But when those service calls are the direct result of an unusual product benefit, GE Appliances takes it all in stride.

“Our newest top load washers using GE’s patented HydroWave Wash System are so technologically advanced that they not only do a better job of washing the clothes, but they do it in a very, very quiet way. So quiet, in fact, that people call our service techs because at first they think the washer isn’t working,” says GE Appliances’ Rental Sales Manager Paul Eichberger.

In addition to the internal improvements, GE has made some changes to the outward appearance of its appliances, as well.

“Some of the new laundry pairs, including our Hotpoint line, will feature a white finish with a silver-colored back guard and silver knobs. It’s a little more of a modern look and it’s different from the standard white-on-white.”

GE has not been as fast as some manufacturers to get into the front load laundry business, preferring to perfect their product before putting the GE name on it. But now that they’ve introduced a line of front load laundry pairs, response has been what you’d expect for a quality-made GE appliance.

“We gained double-digit market share within this first year of unveiling our front load set. They come in a white and a granite grey finish, and the white is the more popular of the two. And we’re currently undergoing enormous market research to help us select which colors we’ll roll out next.”

GE is also branching out on the refrigeration side, with French door refrigerators becoming an important item in their line-up. GE has also made improvements to the already strong side-by-side units. Many of GE’s newest side-by-side models now feature the ‘UltraFlow 64’ feature, which allows the consumer to dispense 64 ounces per minute of fully-filtered water through the door.

GE is proud of the consistently high marks earned by their logistics team. They handle all orders direct, regardless of size, without the use of any distributor.

“GE has a great relationship with Nationwide Marketing Group and we hope to continue to expand our opportunities with RentDirect and the rental channel through 2007 and beyond.”
