A college reunion sparked a new career direction for entrepreneur Cort Hill. Hill’s college buddy boasted of his success in the rent-to-own (RTO) business, convincing Hill to give it a try himself. That fateful conversation culminates this month with Hill opening his first ColorTyme store in Elkton, Maryland. And Hill says he’s just getting started.

“A friend from Wesley College in Dover, Del. told me how much he enjoyed working in the RTO business,” explains Hill. “The potential to control my own destiny really spoke to me; the better I run the store, the more I’ll be rewarded in the end.”

After 18 years in the RTO industry, including positions with Aaron Rents, Cort Furniture Rental, Rent-a-Center and ColorTyme, Hill knows what RTO customers want and need. After succeeding in various positions and now becoming a small business owner, Hill strongly believes ColorTyme provides the right infrastructure, financing and culture that allowed him to take charge of his destiny.

“Everyone offers good customer service,” Hill acknowledges. “But with ColorTyme, it’s nearly a guarantee. It comes down to the actual people managing the store and how they train their employees. If you do what you say you’re going to do and you do it well, customers will continue to do business with you.”
