Two term U.S. Representative Tom Feeney (R-FL 24th), a member of the House Financial Services Committee, has agreed to co-sponsor HR1651, The Consumer Rental Purchase Agreement Act, a bill supported by the Coalition for Fair Rental Regulations. The Coalition, made up of both public and independent rental-purchase companies, is leading the rent-to-own industry effort in favor of The Act.

Feeney (R-FL 24th) has a simple approach to evaluating proposed legislation. While serving in the Florida State House, he developed a checklist of six conservative principles. The idea, Feeney says, is to check whether legislative proposals adhere to the six principles and then act accordingly. The approach was as effective as it was simple and before long, other members were carrying a printed card with the six principles.

When Feeney was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2002, he brought the idea to Washington. It soon caught on and the cards are now distributed through the RSC (Republican Study Committee). See RSC membership list.

Feeney is in his second term. He was unchallenged in his last election and serves on the House Financial Services, Judiciary, and Science committees.
