As you all know, within the last decade, the implementation of technology has affected every aspect of our daily life.

Today we even use computers in elementary education; it is hard to find any business that does not use some form of automation in its daily operation.

From simple implementations to complex and sophisticated systems, you will never get bored finding a new way to speed up and or enhance your business using the PC revolution. You may be getting lost but never bored.

However, our industry had suffered from the lack of taking advantage of this revolution. We are a relatively small and highly specialized industry. We suffered the short fall of software vendor’s who truly do not understand our industry needs. There are a few that truly do such as High Touch, Ideal Software and RSSS, in alphabetical order, not necessarily in preferences or strength. Those particular three giants have dictated the resources and education necessarily to enhance and provide the RTO industry with the right software that is superior in running any size RTO company from 1 store to several stores. All of which provide a strong home office module.

Our industry also lacked the availability of independent consultants that could influence or help in automation of an RTO company.

In the next few articles, I will write about the implementation of technology specific to our industry. I will answer any questions that you may have, and in the process I hope to clarify and separate the myths from facts.

In writing my articles, I will be communicating to you my 16 years experience in the RTO industry and over 23 years of experience in the technology field. I have worked in all fields of technology from a PC hardware repair to software development, network planning and administration, data base design and implementation, different OS implementation. I have also worked with two major software firms; RSSS and Ideal Software Systems.

I am currently employed as CTO (Chief Technology Officer) for Full-O-Pep Appliances Inc. DBA American Rental with 44 locations through out Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia.

In closing, I would like to emphasize the importance of your data. Your data stream is like the blood in your veins and your server is the heart of its operation.

Also remember that computers are man made machines, they are as dumb as a rock. The PC will not think on its own so remember if you get the wrong output that means you entered the wrong input. As they say in the computing world “garbage in garbage out”.
